The Vice-Chancellor, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan today, received the CESDA participants who recently rounded off a 12-week Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Course, describing them as good ambassadors of the university. The VC in his remarks harped on the significance and effects of climate change on the world. He appreciated the organisers under the leadership of Dr. Ademola Atanda, Director, Directorate of Research Management and International Programmes.
In his introductory remarks, Dr. Ademola Atanda, Director, Directorate of Research Management and International Programmes appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and the Management Team for creating an enabling environment for the training. According to him, "the CESDA Acclimatise programme, a 12-week Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) course, is spearheaded by the Centre for Education and Sustainable Development in Africa (CESDA). It is designed for African undergraduates and focuses on climate change and sustainability, equipping students to tackle these issues through participatory research and community engagement. The programme fosters innovative, locally relevant solutions to climate challenges, empowering students to become sustainability leaders."
"Acclimatise unites 10 African universities including our University, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, Nigeria, delivering a dynamic curriculum with case studies, success stories, and practical examples from Africa and beyond. Through experiential learning, students collaborate with local communities to develop sustainable solutions. The course builds essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes for climate adaptation, emphasizing interactive online seminars, group projects, and guided research. Key topics include climate science, Africa-specific impacts, sustainable development goals, and innovative adaptation strategies."
He explained further that, CESDA’s regional chapters in countries like Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa enhance the programme’s reach, fostering cross-country collaboration and regional dialogue. Acclimatise promotes equity by engaging diverse student groups and integrating local knowledge into community-driven solutions. Students undertake projects like sustainable agriculture and climate-resilient urban planning, transforming ideas into real-world impact. The course, offered free of charge, awards certificates upon completion, recognizing students’ expertise in climate and sustainability education.
"By aligning education with climate action, Acclimatise addresses Africa’s unique vulnerabilities, building resilience and fostering sustainable development through shared knowledge and practical skills. It prepares a new generation to lead transformative change across the continent," he submitted.
The Programme was a precursor to EAUED Climate Resilience Club (EAUEDCRC).
The EAUED participants in the Programme are: Gabriel Boluwatife ADEOGUN, Adisa Abideen OLAYIWOLA, Akinwale Kareem AKINBODE, Ajani Faruk MUDASIRU, Olamide Aminat MOSHOOD, Adunni Mahmudah IMRAN, Pamilerin Abigail AFOLABI, Adeleke Emmanuel ADEBAYO, Oreoluwa Elizabeth ADEPOJU, Aanuoluwa Precious OYAWALE, Fiyinfunjah Lois IBITOYE, Matthew Boluwatife OLANIYAN, Omotoyosi Shukurah SALAUDEEN, Deborah Oyinkansola ADENIYI and Olamide Nafisat GBADAMOSI.
The Coordinators are Dr. Abiodun E. ADESINA and Dr. Rasheedat S. GANIYU, while Dr. Olusola S. FADAIRO served as the Facilitator.
Certificates and transcripts were later distributed by the Vice-Chancellor to the participants.
