Professor Akinkunmi A. Alao,
Dean, Faculty of Art Education.
The Faculty of Arts Education at Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, is a vital component of the University’s mandate to produce highly skilled, professionally competent, and globally relevant educators in the humanities. Rooted in a long-standing tradition of teacher education that dates back to the institution’s origins as St. Andrew’s College in 1896, the Faculty reflects the University’s enduring commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement.
As part of a specialised University of Education, the Faculty is dedicated to the integration of disciplinary knowledge in the arts with pedagogical training. It prepares students not only as subject specialists in fields such as history, religious studies, languages, creative arts, and related disciplines, but also as effective educators capable of contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s educational system and broader societal development. The Faculty aligns with the University’s mission of producing professionals who can serve as teachers, administrators, and change agents at both national and international levels.
The Faculty of Arts Education maintains a strong culture of scholarship and intellectual engagement, encouraging research, critical inquiry, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Through seminars, conferences, and academic publications, it provides platforms for staff and students to contribute to contemporary debates in the humanities and education. This is further supported by the University’s broader research ecosystem, which promotes innovation and knowledge production across disciplines.
Under the leadership of the Dean, Professor Akinkunmi A. Alao, the Faculty continues to strengthen its academic profile, enhance teaching quality, and expand its research output. The Faculty also plays a central role in fostering cultural awareness and preserving indigenous knowledge systems, particularly within the context of Yoruba studies and Nigerian heritage.
The Faculty of Arts Education stands as a dynamic academic community committed to nurturing intellectual growth, advancing educational practice, and shaping future educators who are responsive to the evolving demands of society.
