The Vice-Chancellor, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan is 59 today. The pioneer Vice-Chancellor was appointed on August 9, 2023.

The Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi Siju' Asunmo, while thanking God for the Vice Chancellor's life, described him as a blessing to the University. According to her, "The entire Management and Staff of our University today celebrate our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan as he turns 59. Your leadership has brought peace and harmony to our University system and that has led us to recording tremendous progress. We pray that as you mark your 59th birthday, God Almighty shall continue to strengthen you and imbue you with knowledge to further paddle the canoe of our dear institution. On behalf of the University Management, staff and students, I wish you a prosperous birthday, Sir."

The Eruwa-born administrator, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan was born on June 27, 1967 and attended Loyola College, Ibadan where he graduated in 1982. He holds a Ph.D in Economics from the Department of Economics, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He holds a Bachelor's degree of Education in Educational Management and Economics. He is a Professor of Economics in the Department.

The renowned Economist was the immediate Past Director, Centre for Sustainable Development, University of Ibadan. He was a Senior Associate Member, St Anthony’s College, University of Oxford, Oxford, United Kingdom in 2007 and a Visiting Research Scholar to Cornell Food and Nutrition Policy Programme, Cornell University, Ithaca, USA in 2005.

Professor Olaniyan has over 27 years of research, consulting and tertiary teaching experience in Health and Population Economics, Economics of Education, Poverty and Welfare Analysis as well as Social Protection.

He gained useful experience in social policy work in developing countries through which he was able to interact and work with senior-level technocrats and officials. Professor Olaniyan teaches Economics of Human Resources, Macroeconomics, Health Economics, Development Economics and Project Analysis and Evaluation in the Department. His research areas include Population Economics and Intergenerational Transfers, Economics of Education, Health Economics, Poverty and Welfare Analysis, and Sustainable Development.

Professor Olaniyan is also a member of the Academic Steering Committee of the Global Master in Development Practice Association based in Columbia University, New York, USA. He has presented keynote addresses and/or attended conferences/seminars in more than 60 countries around the world, including Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, North and South America. He has also consulted for many organizations, including the World Bank, World Health Organization, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), among others. He has over 150 publications to his credit.

He was graciously appointed by His Excellency, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE as the Pioneer Vice Chancellor of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo on August 9, 2023 and has been paddling the canoe of the institution since his appointment.
