EAUED OYO 2026 WORLD TEACHERS' DAY: Educationists Proffer Solutions to Challenges  Facing Teachers.

The Vice Chancellor, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education Oyo, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan has stated that there is a need for the academic community to reflect on the state of teaching profession and examine the challenges the teachers are facing.

Professor Olaniyan made this call in an event on the school campus in commemoration of World Teachers' Day. 

According to him, the occasion carries particular significance for Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, being an institution whose identity and mandate rest on the preparation and development of teachers.

While highlighting the roles of teachers in society, the don stated that every successful society has teachers at its foundation. 

He noted that before there is a doctor, an engineer, a professor, a scientist or a leader, there is a teacher. 

The renowned economist explained that the contribution of teachers is seldom visible when achievements are celebrated, yet the intellectual foundation of those achievements is often laid in the classroom. 

Professor Olaniyan maintained that teaching cannot be regarded as simply another occupation, since it shapes the people who go on to shape every other sector. 

While expressing his opinion about the advent of Artificial Intelligence in the Teaching profession, Eruwa-born administrator said technology should support the teachers rather than replace the teachers.

Professor Olaniyan said Teachers must also be prepared to address the attendant ethical concerns, including misinformation, plagiarism, data privacy and bias.

Also speaking, the guest lecturer, Professor Taiwo Adepoju, a Professor of Educational Management from Obafemi Awolowo University, who spoke on the theme "Protecting and promoting the status of the teaching profession in the rapidly changing world", said teaching profession occupies a strategic position in the development of individuals, 
institutions, nations and humanity.

Professor Adepoju noted that teaching is much more than the ability to stand before a class and explain a topic, stressing that professional teacher is expected to diagnose learning difficulties, design learning 
experiences, assess progress, provide feedback, motivate learners, manage diversity, mediate 
social relationships and contribute to the intellectual and moral development of students.

The programme, packaged by the Directorate of Professional Practice in conjunction with the Media and Public Relations Office had discussants that include Professor Segun Adedeji from University of Ibadan and Dr. O. J Adesina, the HOD Special Education, Guidance and Counselling EAUED.

Others are Dr S. A Adelakun, the Proprietress, Salamat Olaniyan Memorial Kiddies College, Oyo while the Host was Dr. Olusegun Adeagbo, Director, Directorate of Professional Practice.
