All hail the first Teacher Training institution in Nigeria.
Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, is the first Teacher Training institution in Nigeria having been established at Abeokuta in 1859, by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) with the name The Training Institution.
The Training institution moved to Lagos in 1867 when Missionaries were expelled from Abeokuta, after the Ifole Riots occassioned by disagreements between the Missionaries and the Abeokuta local authorities.

It was later upgraded to a College of Education in 1980, and renamed St Andrews College of Education and now admitting male and female students instead original Boys' Only institution. The ownership of the institution changed from being a mission-owned institution to government-owned institution in the late 1970s
The name of the institution was further changed to Oyo State College of Education in 1986 and later in 2008, the name changed again to Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo.
