BRIEF HISTORY

The Emmanuel Alayande University of Education Bookshop is an offshoot of the College Bookshop, which had been established right from the period the College was known as St.Andrew’s College of Education, Oyo. From that period until 2014, its management had been under the appointment of a senior staffer from the Non-Academic sector. The impact of the Bookshop on the general academic goals was not much felt before its resuratation in 2014 when the management decided to be appointing senior academic staff members to head it from time to time. The resuscitation, therefore, was championed by the first academic staff Director of the Bookshop, Mr.Jubril Babatunde Jimoh. The idea of selling of books individually was then banished. All published books by authors from both within and outside were to be sold for college students’ use through the Bookshop, with conditions attached. These services of the Bookshop were extended to cater for the need so learners in the Nursery and Primary School of the College as well as the Model Secondary School located at Isokun Campus of the institution. This development informed interactions between the Management of the Bookshop and Publishers who brought books for sale especially at the beginning of each academic session. The unsold books were later retrieved by the Publishers after rebates agreed to must have been paid to the coffers of the Institution. Auditors assigned to oversee the activities of the Bookshop do come periodically. Between 2016 and 2020, Mr. Ayinde Dauda Oladeji was the Director, while the last Director to head the Bookshop under the defunct College of Education was Dr Aminat Aderonke Agoro (Feb.2020-Aug.2023) The transmutation of the Emmanuel Alayande College of Education to Emmanuel Alayande University of Education made the appointment of Dr Isiaka Adetokunbo Adedeji in September 2023 the Pioneer Director of the University Bookshop.
